Geography
Discover Your World
Geography is an interdisciplinary subject that studies the physical and the social sciences from a spatial perspective.
The Introduction to Geography course broadly covers both. For example, California experiences numerous (and deadly) earthquakes along their San Andreas Fault because it is the boundary between the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate which are slowly moving in opposite directions.
Economic geography is a topical course focusing on economic concepts, problems and possible solutions globally. The Persian Gulf contains most of this planet's known oil reserves. Modern societies heavily base their industrial economies upon the usefulness of plentiful oil. As a result, a politically unstable region also becomes a critically important region and ultimately a battlefield for the world's militaries.
The Geography of Europe is a regional course focusing on physical and cultural landscape of Europe including the origins, development, importance and future of the European Union. The last time Europe was peacefully united was 12 centuries ago! The EU has been intergrating and growing to such an extent, it may become a new global superpower to rival the USA.
Why Geography?
Geography is necessary in order to understand our globalizing society and make sound decisions for ourselves and for others.
